Richard Cohen, MA
Richard Cohen, a consultant and trainer, is an expert in the fields of negotiation, mediation, and conflict management. He has trained more than 10,000 individuals in mediation and negotiation skills in the corporate, health care, education, and public sectors.
Mr. Cohen’s client list includes BMC Software, Genentech, General Dynamics, Siemens, Sanofi-Synthelabo, Lowes, MathWorks, Proctor and Gamble, and Acxiom. In the nonprofit sector, he has worked with Harvard Pilgrim Health Care, Gernika Gogoratuz (Spain), Partners Health Care, The U.S. Department of Labor, Golubka (Russia), Educators for Social Responsibility, and the Massachusetts Department of Education. He also mediates EEO disputes for the United States Postal Service. His work has taken him across the United States as well as to Russia, England, Spain, and the Netherlands.
Mr. Cohen founded School Mediation Associates, one of the first organizations dedicated to teaching mediation skills to educators and young people. His books, Students Resolving Conflict: Peer Mediation in Schools and The School Mediators Field Guide: Prejudice, Sexual Harassment, Large Groups and Other Daily Challenges, are used by educators around the world.
He has served as an Adjunct Professor at both The University of Massachusetts and Cambridge College, where he has taught courses on negotiation, mediation, and dispute systems design. He has a strong interest in diversity, and has designed and conducted programs to explore the relevance of western conflict resolution approaches to both Asian and Latino cultures.
Mr. Cohen has an M.A. in Psychology from Beacon College.
