Mariah Levin

Mariah Levin

Mariah Levin is currently at Harvard University and The Fletcher School of Law and Diplomacy and pursuing joint-Master Degrees specializing in negotiation and post-conflict development. She is a certified and practicing mediator in Massachusetts. She serves on the board of the Harvard Mediation Program and conducts external trainings on mediation for the larger Cambridge community. Mariah received her negotiation training through the Harvard Program on Negotiation at Harvard Law School. She is currently consulting with the Harvard International Negotiation Initiative to develop a training module on emotions and negotiation to better equip soldiers in US Army to manage high-payoff interactions with other militaries and civilians in conflict areas.

Before moving to Boston, Mariah worked in international diplomacy and development in the Former Soviet Union, North Africa, and Switzerland. She has worked for organizations such as the United Nations High Commission for Refugees, the International Organization for Migration, and other for-profit and non-profit organizations. During her time at these organizations, she facilitated multi-stakeholder dialogues between governments, international organizations, and civil society on controversial issues such as trafficking in humans, climate change, and indigenous land use. As part of her work, Mariah contributed to training civil society actors in building effective communication with government counterparts. She advised intergovernmental and non-government organizations on development projects around the world, integrating the use of consensus building mechanisms. Throughout her professional experience, Mariah has frequently implemented interest-based negotiation techniques in her diplomatic and development work to seek sustainable solutions to international problems.

Mariah was awarded a Fulbright Fellowship to conduct independent research on negotiations surrounding the resettlement of Chechen asylum seekers in Ukraine, which was translated into Russian for use by the UN. She has been named a Presidential Scholar at Harvard University and a Board of Overseers Scholar at The Fletcher School.
